Using SOAP in addition to REST

description

On the Sony Ericsson K800i update, delete on cloud DB is not supported due to technical limitations with http-implementation running on the device. This limitation can be circumvented by using SOAP instead of REST. I have found the KSOAP2-library at sourceforge that can fix this.

I have tried to use KSOAP and almost all functionality implemented for creating a library to support SOAP with SDS, but I felt in the end that things got quite complicated and the application will have to depend on KSOAP. I have also read articles on the net that favour the REST approach to web service (which I like because of its simplicity). Instead I will create SOAP-request XML for only update and delete to bypass the MIDP 2.0 limitation og PUT and DELETE HTTP verbs. I use the SOAPUI-tool to see/test request/responses. Very nice application.

I thought it should be possible to issue HTTP DELETE AND UPDATE by using secure socket programming, but unfortunately port 443 is BLOCKED and I get SecurityException -> MIDlet has to be signed with an appropiate security certificate that cost about $500/year -> not an option for me just to get HTTP DELETE.
